The Temptation of Jesus
Mark 1:12-13; Matthew 4:1-11
1. (1) What are some common temptations that face us regularly?
(2) Will you share the nature of some of your temptations in your daily lives?
2. (1) Why does God allow temptation in our lives? What is the purpose of temptation?
(2) Is temptation inherently sinful? Is there a difference between temptation and testing? If so, what is the difference?
(3) How do you know you are facing temptation? How do you recognize it?
3. The first temptation of Jesus, Matthew 4:2-4
- What is the nature of the temptation? Can you give some modern day examples?
- What was Jesus' response?
- Have you experienced similar temptation and what was your response?
- What does this temptation tells us about God's word?
4. The Second temptation of Jesus, Matthew 4:5-7
- What is the nature of the temptation? Can you give some modern day example?
- What was Jesus' response?
- Have you experience similar temptation and what was your response?
- Why testing God is wrong?
5. The Third temptation of Jesus, Matthew 4:8-11
- What is the nature of the temptation? Can you give some modern day example?
- What was Jesus' response?
- Have you experience similar temptation and what was your response?
- What does this temptation tell us about the Messiah's way? ( Mark 1:1-2 )
6. Wrap up.
- Had there been times when you felt the temptation was so strong that you want to yield to it? How would I Corinthian 10:13 help ?
- How would you compare the 1 st Adam with the 2 nd Adam, Jesus Christ? What are their similarities and dissimilarities? How does the truth that the believers are in 2 nd Adam assure us when we face those intense temptations?
